Career Technical Education (CTE)

Career Technical Education also known as Trade, Occupational or Vocational Programs are programs of study that involve a sequence of courses that integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to post-secondary education and careers.

Community Colleges offer CTE where you can obtain internships, apprenticeships and earn multiple certificates in a specified area like:
- Accounting
- Automotive Technology
- Automotive Mechanics
- Culinary Arts – (Chef, cook)
- Healthcare- (LVN, CNA, medical assistant, medical biller)
- Dental assistance/hygiene
- Digital Media
- Cosmetology
- Construction
- Air Conditioning/HVAC
- Welding
- Law enforcement
- Legal studies
- Agriculture
- Water technology
- Information technology
- Computer technology
- Nursing
- Office Administration
- Fire Technology- (firefighter)
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography – (Ultrasound technician)
- Radiology Technology- (xrays)
- Real Estate
- Hospitality Management
- Solar Technology

Usually, these are 6 month-2 year programs. Most people don’t know, but Community Colleges offer CTE programs for free or at a very low cost. Please don’t spend thousands of dollars on private schools, when you can access CTE programs for free at a nearby community college. Most students qualify for a Cal Grant C (up to $1,700 per year) and the California Promise Grant which offers you two free years at a community college. Just ask me how!
